DOCTOR WHO FILM (A GUESSED LEAKED CONVERSATION ) THOUGHTS?

It is with apprehension and undercurrents of surprise that I realise the BBC are seemingly serious on their desire to make a big screen “Dr Who” for the masses. An actor recently gave the following confused look...

The factors are obvious; a steadily growing fan base that will make the name/franchise synonymous both sides of the Atlantic as well as a desire to monetise their catalogue (whilst avoiding breaking the BBC charter of course)

I really hope the film is made with style and holds on to the series sensibility that we have come to love over he last few years since the reboot has received acclaim.

The announcement that the films will be considered a separate continuity to the TV series is not an unexpected one; and it may even cross over (industry rumours suggest). Smallville proves several incarnations of the same character can work, (although debate rages within the core fan base). However its probably undecided as yet.

It does however come down in this humble writers opinion to one thing, which may be encapsulated in the (all be it imagined) conversation that recently took place.

Friday Thoguhts - Mumblings and Indian 24 - Billy Crystal and Westerns

Long time no print as it were, well there you go, life catches up with you sometimes, and you have to do the important stuff (or you forget what the important stuff is!)

Always happy for the comments by the way, and good to hear from the Usual Suspects as it were.

Happy with Bond, as a long term reader you will know that I am a fan of the series and “Skyfall” seems to fit in with both old and new, and a stella cast as well- always good Finney as a foil to Dench etc. One can’t help but think it’s Craig’s last outing, although he will be welcomed for more.

Also Bret Ratner out of the Oscars! Well one can’t help think this might be a good thing, if only it means the return of the mighty Billy Crystal. (Although one wonders what Eddie Murphy would have done with the audience levels……spice girls jokes aside..)

I love Westerns mightily and am watching the cast form in Tarentino’s Django Unchained. A whose who of B listers seems to be in line with Expendables casting - - the only criteria required is a gritty face and some ok acting chops. Just how I like my films.

Finally I’m quite chuffed that Anil Kapoor has acquired the rights to produce and star in an Indian version of “24”. He will play the Jack Bauer character and I hope I wasn’t the only one to be impressed by his acting chops in recent croos over productions like Slumdog Millionaire and the US version of 24. (Also look out for his turn in soon released Mission Impossible 4.)

Say it isn’t so so Joan wilder? A few posts ago I mentioned that the romancing the stone remake was in production. Well now it looks like they are going to put it to TV with an adventure of the week, with an overall arc! First the Transporter now this I mean really!

Anyways please get he casting right !

MAN FROM UNCLE CLOONEY GOES. who arrives?

SO George Clooney has dropped out of the Man from Uncle (remake one million and counting) - I really thought he would be see himself as perfect for the role, as they will be setting the film in the 60’s to mimic the feel of the early Bond films.
People forget he improved Solaris from the original but perhaps the camp taste was not his vibe in this spy caper.

Well to be honest I have never really enjoyed Clooney in straight action fare, except perhaps for the bizarrely lovely From Dusk Till Dawn.

Who could fill his shoes one asks. It is very hard to tell, Robert Vaughan was of course perfect for the spy, and more importantly Ducky from NCIS as Ilya Kuryakin - that’s takes some beating.

So comments are welcome on who could meet the need for 60’s spies, perhaps Jon Hamm, or going younger why not Ewan MacGregor and he could at least play a Bond type.

Here is the twee but well orchestrated theme -they should keep this.

Well it seems that the next episode of Who did what it threatened and revealed some more about River Song, we at least know now where she came from, who she was and the Doctor’s role in her rebirth as heroine and not a murderer (or so we are to believe thus far.)

I very much enjoyed the episode as it seemed to be intelligent enough to raise some more questions; Like who is the astronaut responsible or the Doc’s Death - as logic would dictate that it isn’t river.

Who could it be then?

Well I for one think I know the answer but not here, maybe another time peoples.

Points to consider

1) Why o why did the doctor change into a dinner suit and have the time to make sonic cane?
2) What will happen to the shape changing Robot as seemingly abandoned in 1930’s Germany?
3) When did I Rory get some balls?

All good and not bad for Sunday random post.

DOCTOR WHO SERIES THOUGHTS AND SPOILERS

I have long been a fan of doctor who on this site and in real life. The new series is about to start (or its second half is?) this Saturday, I will endeavour to add my two penneth into the mix and see what you all think.

SPOILERS and Speculation

Please read on with care for Spoilers etc.

At the start of the series the doctor got shot by the astronaut on the beach and then again when his regeneration cycle began. Well the question is who shot him? Everyone’s debating, but no-one asks why? Which for the moff is more important than who.

It is my belief that the doctor we see die is one of two gangers (or maybe more) that were created. The doctor we have been following all series is a “clone” of flesh, and the astronaut who kills him is the doctor himself (the real one).

One ganger got killed at the end of the ganger two parter, the other escaped in the Tardis and has been travelling around (thus knowing he is on borrowed time)

The doctor has to kill the ganger as for some as yet unexplained reason it would be bad to have timelords running around willy nilly – marrying people etc. (cue river song)

Fold in the make shift tardis at the end of last series, and we have a way for the real doctor to get out of the trap and reappear on a beach to finish what he started earlier (or later as it were)

As yet unanswered –

Who does River Song go to prison for murdering?

I think she takes the flack for the doctor’s killing of the doctor as explained above.

Just some thoughts, but I love to put down on paper.

REMAKE OF ROMANCING THE STONE! (PLEASE GET IT RIGHT)

Thanks to the guys at moviehole, I was reminded that they are remaking the wonderful “Romancing the Stone” which starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in a film that was one of the best action flick/romcoms of the 80’s.

Even the sequel Jewel of the Nile had a certain charm; that made the two films most entertaining, and played heavily on the real chemistry between the two leads. Almost pitched as a modern day indiana jones, it ironically was a success in it's own right.

I feel it is quite difficult o recast the flick, and some of the names that are being bandied around are a real drag when you think the film was about action comedy (without the CGI) and set the way for many actioners that followed.

Well it is very hard to know what to do next, and who could play the all important male lead?

-Daniel Craig – could he do subtle comedy?
-Will smith might be interesting -
-Josh Holloway – would carry it off maybe
-Maybe Jeremy remner?

DR WHo Fan Audio - Excellent

It is with great pleasure I got to listen to a fan made Dr Who adventure starring website favourite Moled Mc as the ninth doctor. Moley’s impression/interpretation of the ninth doctor is spot on of course, and the scene is set in the preview for the full adventure; which will be released over the coming weeks.

I have been sworn on pain of the Osterhargen Key to not reveal anymore, but it really will be a great production when released.

In an interesting twist for an audio drama, the ninth doctor meets the classic who companion “Ace”, and explains why he is the last of the Timelords. To say any more would be a "spoiler" but what i have read is written well and both old and new who fans will be proud.

I found the short exert to be very clever and a great taster for what is set to come. The mood of angry pre-rose 9th doc is nicely captured and a reminder of how new Who has developed over the last few years.

If anyone doubts the skills involved, here’s moley doing his best Eccleston, performing Romeo and Juliet to boot!.

CASTLE V's CASTLE ? (marvel to appear on Castle TV Show)

"Castle" which stars the Sci Fi fan hero Nathan Fillion is a good show. It borders admittedly between hit and average, but most of the time is engaging and tries to capture somewhat of a Moonlighting feel between the two leads.

Now how do you keep these things alive? The American audience like procedurals. It was announced that this year’s series of “castle”, will feature a Marvel Character making an appearance.

One hopes that Disney and Marvel’s new relationship may filter through to various TV series in the long run, but this could be an interesting approach if they go ahead.

Sensibly without getting too excited we can hope that it isn’t the first option, but it probably is one of the following;
1) Someone dresses as a superhero in a plot point
2) Genuine character appearance to test water.
3) Actual real Marvel "character" appearance to set up a spin for a TV series?

I would imagine we can narrow the field by assuming that it is inst a real worlkd superherop as it were, but a vigilante type. I for one say Punisher as really he is a reality based superhero, and current internet chatter suggests it to.

Inspector Morse Recast - OTHERS TO FOLLOW?

I am not sure how i feel about Inspector Morse being Ret conned and/or Prequelled (are those the terms you’d use?) – The beloved novel hero so valiantly played by the late John Thaw has been recast with Shaun Evans in the role.

The TV Movie “Endeavour” will be set in the 60’s and show the younger days of the detective, before he was the detective we all know and love. The show has the creator’s blessing with Colin Dexter supporting the film, although I will wait and see.

I never even followed Lewis to be honest, but I will withhold judgement, and hope that they Realise it was John Thaw that made the show to a certain degree.

Rebooting and retelling has been happening for a while now, so it’s interesting to see the trend moving into Television in the UK to.

Sherlock rebooted/modernised
Barnabus has been replaced with a cousin
Now Morse has been retconned.

Surely what’s next, might i suggest -

Dempsey and Makepeace Reboot (Now that might actually work?)

And PLEASE BBC MAKE THIS

I came across a film the other day that really intrigued me, simply from its name.

The film is 'Catfish' and goes by the premise that it is a documentary film that has an unexpected ending and something that the film makers did not know was going to happen. From this, there is obviously suspicions that the whole thing was constructed, but it makes for interesting viewing anyway.

The story follows three friends who film their remarkable story over a period of a few months.

Nev, has been contacted on Facebook, (a recuring new age social network theme) by a girl who seems to be besotted with him. She writes to him, sends pictures and paints portraits of herself and him and we see these meticulously pile up on the sideboard in the guy's studio. We all know the dangers of the internet but the film really shows a different side to the moral aspects of this.

To me, although somewhat staged, the film makers successfully show a multitude of different emotions that takes the viewer along with them all through their extraordinary journey. It is really hard for someone that has watched it not to give away too many spoilers. Because really, although you see that something is coming, nothing can prepare you for the final hour of their story where the boys actually travel to the house of Nev's admirer.The film's dynamic completely changes here along with the feelings and thoughts you had felt in the first part.

The film has generally got very good reviews from critics, despite the initial controversy that surrounds the film's subjects. I wouldn't say it is a film to sit down on the settee to after a romantic meal but if you are in the mood to watch something that will make you think, this is for you.

STEPHEN LORD an interview

Here at Newmanfilms we were very lucky to get the chance to talk to the actor Stephen Lord. You may recognise him from various TV projects in the UK, and the Van Damme film “The Shepherd”.

His latest project has just hit DVD and Stephen was able to give us a few moments to talk about Desperate measures (more info here) and future plans. Stephen comes across as very down to Earth and a real talent shown in his latest flick in particular.

NEWMAN

The role you play in Desperate Measures must have been emotionally taxing. How did you prepare for the role?

STEPHEN

I think when taking any on role you have to do enough homework and thankfully I felt prepared enough to take on the role of Ross.

I had a real connection with the writing and in particular with Ross's dialogue. I think the writer Chris Green and me both being from Salford and knowing each others background was of huge benefit.

For me having a strong insight into Addiction and Alcoholism was a huge plus which helped me immensely take on the role and deliver.

I've had a lot of roles that like to take me through the wringer but this was probably the most taxing physically and mentally and the environment we worked in was another strong factor.

The support on and off set from the director Steve Looker and the writer and producer Chris Green was also at hand any time if and when needed.

How did you find the experience different, to perhaps a more international set such as with JCVD on “The Shepard”

STEPHEN

Very different. The obvious being that when you are working on a project with a much bigger budget you generally have a lot more luxury in all areas including Accommodation, Food and Travel.

In terms of doing the work though more time for set ups and doing more takes I would say is the major difference.

Do you think the BBC’s relocation to Salford is going to play a big part for youngsters in the creative arts?

Well I hope so. It would be great if more work is generated for all concerned. There's a lot of talented and hard working people in the North West.

What’s next for you ?

STEPHEN

My next film out is "Default" which is about the kidnapping of 5 CNN journalists by Somalia Pirates. I play one of the journalists and its directed by Columbian film-maker Simon Brand.

Its a strong story with a great cast and its got some nice folk behind the project.

In August I’m going to do a bit of a comedy turn for TV playing a Christian nut and then onto hopefully the next right job.

We await his next project with bated breath and wish him every success.

DESPERATE MEASURES THOUGHTS AND TRAILER

A nice collection of British actors can be seen in the new DVD release “Desperate Measures” The film is an independent so has promise to be grittier than most. Chris Green Productions in association with Lioneyes TV has made the film which stars Stephen Lord, Ricci Harnett, as well as Max Beasley Snr.

Tackling the subject of drug withdrawal and kidnap set a against a stark Yorkshire Landscape the film features a claustrophobic turn on capture and redemption; directed with some nuance by Steve Looker.

The film’s writer & producer Chris Green said: ‘I think the gritty storyline and the gripping nature of the characters portrayed by Ricci, Stephen and Max is a celebration of the raw and powerful talent that exists most strongly within the British film industry.’

The trailer below shows the style of the film nicely and it’s on DVD now.

A new author has decided to send some stuff our way in regards to the new Series on the USA network called Suits.

The Mad Hatter has put together a few words with his thoughts on the program, and I think we’ll agree he does a fine job here, let’s hope comments and feedback encourages the man to write some more for newmanfilms and get his name out there!

The USA Network has demonstrated a remarkable penchant for launching TV drama and/or action series that quickly become major hits with viewers. These sensations include White Collar, Covert Affairs, In Plain Sight and the most recent addition to the line-up, Suits.

It is understandable that a viewer's first reaction might not be very enthusiastic about another show revolving around a fictitious law firm, but a closer look would reveal a very unique story plot.

Suits is centered on a young man by the name of Mike Ross, (played by Patrick J. Adams), who made a few missteps early in life and was diverted from his college studies in law school. In a somewhat comical opening episode, Ross finds himself fleeing from the police and in his haste to make his escape, he stumbles into an office where a senior partner of a law firm is interviewing potential associates. With his photographic memory and Mensa IQ, Ross lands the position although he has no law degree.

The senior partner who decides to hire Ross is Harvey Specter, (played by Gabriel Macht). He is so impressed that he overlooks the minor detail of Ross's lack of a law degree and becomes Ross's mentor at the firm. In subsequent episodes, the viewer is treated to very original situations which are entirely plausible if one dismisses the premise of a law firm actually hiring an associate without a degree; (however, the plot does address that circumstance in a very cunning manner).

Other characters in the show include a partner by the name of Louis Litt, (played by Rick Hoffman), who is sarcastic, suspicious, envious and downright nasty. He is a virtual tyrant in his treatment of junior associates.

There is also a budding romance between Ross and a young female associate.

In short, I strongly recommend that you take a peek at Suits; it is highly entertaining. To catch up on previous episodes, here is a link to the website:

SERIOUS REACTION TO NEWS OF THE WORLD

I have put my serious hat on regarding the comments current Government officials have put out there through interviews, and websites etc, regarding the recent behaviour; allegedly demonstrated provable, by the #NOTW.

In true #NOTW style I will paraphrase and say that Mr Clegg has basically said we should take this opportunity to clean up journalism and re-address the Medias relationship with public officials. Readers should remember this is the same political machine commentating, which courted media in recent years. (Subtext to those in the know could even be said to say “leaks are alright as long as they are sanctioned!”)

His broad remarks are interesting; as to be honest they are a knee jerk reaction to political ramifications rather than a controlled and supportive statement. He is not making sure that respected members of the press are looked after and treated professionally. I would have liked support not blanket responses rushed out by PR proofers.

In my career I have had many jobs, but my recognition as a genuine journalist (with press card and everything) was a career achievement for me, and one that I am proud of. I achieved this along with many others through hard work and intelligent writing, not through subversive means. I accept though the dichotomy of the world we live in that main stream publications can require shocking stories to sell, and in the #NOTW we have this in spades.

There majority of writers and creative types have tried to hone their craft, and without their intelligent questioning of the world around us, society would be less changed for the better. I am abhorred by hacking scandals, regardless if its celebrity or public that have suffered (as a father I feel the current allegations are tear inducing if true)

I would never have undertaken illegal (or frankly immoral) work to get a story. Yes I’m sarcastic and opinionated, but that is my choice, would I break someone’s privacy...no. The majority of people in my boat/profession/work would not misbehave, and government enquiries and deliberations need to recognise this.

We are big fans of her majesty’s loyal terrier so we thought we would pip in on our Bond thoughts and what we would like to see happen – At least the news of the world won’t turn this or any other humble bloggers ramblings into published fact anymore.

Regardless Naomi Harris cast as Moneypenny – well I like that she’s young enough to do ten or more films (as it were).

Rumoured Ralph Fiennes cast as (delete as appropriate) blofeld, big baddy, rogue agent, someone else – this could work quite well. He can act that boy and would be good to see him have a punch up with Craig to be honest.

(Only a suggestion so comments welcome and Mendez ple1ase use this – but quote us somewhere and give us two tickets to premiere!)

Scene opens and the last of Quantum is being hunted down by MI6 – One of the top boy’s in evil organisation turns put to be Ralph Fiennes – ex SAS, but also high up in her majesties services. (Nice as he would play this like a vicious Roger Moore bond in someway)

Fiennes escapes and kills M SHOCK HORROR and her as yet unnamed secretary ETC

Judi Dench’s Death leads Bond to go on a revenge mission for his mentor (previously used in License to kill, and Die another Day etc – undertones of Goldeneye) however he is stopped by the government, who say that Quantum is shattered and they are now in charge again. The old M wouldn’t have sanctioned this

New M is a good guy but has a stand to make and thinks about the bigger picture. Skilfully played by Hugh Laurie (that right people – just watch first two series of spooks) – The new M warns Bond and nice seen ensues where Bond works his boss and the baddies.
Moneypenny directs Bond to Q branch, where Bond moans about his arm scar when the tracking chip was removed (keeping continuity) and here we meet Q.

Q is played wonderfully by Hugh Grant (watch his serious turns in early BBC TV and tell me he can’t pull it off) – Now we know this is random but we like it, and it would really suit the American market for films as well. He’s turned fifty, let his hair go greyish and act less like a buffoon and it’s the right choice.

jack reacher's casting tom cruise and jim's opinion

We put the call out on twitter and the website for someone to give us an opinion on who should play the mighty “Jack Reacher” from the series of books by Lee Child. One Shot is set to go into production with Tom Cruise (?) as lead.

A lovely eloquent response just arrived from a fan who wanted to add his opinion to the mix, please read below and feel free to comment and leave thoughts etc.

Remeber we were one of those that loved the source material and were slightly concerned as to Cruise being cast.

In the book adventure series written by Lee Child, the central character is Jack (NMI) Reacher. Reacher is a man's man who is quiet and withdrawn until he inevitably encounters some great injustice. When he gets involved in the situation, the outcome is pre-ordained. However, it is the action that takes place between this initial involvement and the conclusion which captures the attention of the reader.

Since Reacher is the key ingredient to these spell-binding stories, the success of any motion picture adaptation will depend primarily on the selection of the actor to play Reacher. With the physical attributes that Child bestows on Reacher, two actors came to my mind as very viable prospects for the role: Jeffrey Donovan and Damian Lewis.

I have seen the work of both actors and I simply could not "reach" a final submission regarding Reacher. The physical appearance of both actors not only fit that of Reacher, but they project an image of quiet strength; which is the very essence of Reacher. Both are very agile and fit and I have no doubt they would be able to do many of their own stunts while shooting the movie. Each has the ability to comport himself in such a fashion, to match the current circumstances in the story, regardless of how quickly those circumstances may change.

Image via WikipediaWell I am quite excited to see that the man from Uncle looks set to be released in the next year or so. There has to be a host of actors that could do it, but I do wonder who could replace the suavity of suave personified in “David McAllum and Robert Vaughan”. Younger readers may know them respectively as Ducky from FX’s NCIS and Albert from the BBC’s Hustle.

Fringe producer Brad Caleb Kane has agreed to be part of the rebooted “Daredevil” franchise and this it is alleged in teh trades will be based on teh Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli storyline called “Born Again”. The film features a fall from grace and a rebirth into herodum, but one wonders if the hero has the cinematic wooden spoon. The storyline heavily features New York’s other hero Spiderman – but as the franchises are different studios one hopes that something can be arranged to bring the heroes on screen together (I really doubt it.....)

Shia “we all hate Frankie munz” Leboef has said Harrison Ford is in the gym in prep for an annoucemnt about another Indian Jones instalment. However one cannot help but think the gym time, is more to keep him fit for his wife Ally McBeal (sorry fans.....). Let’s hope no CGI or Aliens.

I thought I had to post this, it’s available on other sites such as Empire as well, but it is rare that a statement so conclusively condemns a release, and in fairness one can’t argue their logic, or perhaps one can, comments welcome as always, thanks for the continued support.

"The first film dealt with a mad doctor who sews together three kidnapped people in order to produce the ‘human centipede ‘of the title. Although the concept of the film was undoubtedly tasteless and disgusting it was a relatively traditional and conventional horror film and the Board concluded that it was not in breach of our Guidelines at ‘18’. This new work, The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence), tells the story of a man who becomes sexually obsessed with a DVD recording of the first film and who imagines putting the ‘centipede’ idea into practice. Unlike the first film, the sequel presents graphic images of sexual violence, forced defecation, and mutilation, and the viewer is invited to witness events from the perspective of the protagonist. Whereas in the first film the ‘centipede’ idea is presented as a revolting medical experiment, with the focus on whether the victims will be able to escape, this sequel presents the ‘centipede’ idea as the object of the protagonist’s depraved sexual fantasy.

The principal focus of The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) is the sexual arousal of the central character at both the idea and the spectacle of the total degradation, humiliation, mutilation, torture, and murder of his naked victims. Examples of this include a scene early in the film in which he masturbates whilst he watches a DVD of the original Human Centipede film, with sandpaper wrapped around his penis, and a sequence later in the film in which he becomes aroused at the sight of the members of the ‘centipede’ being forced to defecate into one another’s mouths, culminating in sight of the man wrapping barbed wire around his penis and raping the woman at the rear of the ‘centipede’. There is little attempt to portray any of the victims in the film as anything other than objects to be brutalised, degraded and mutilated for the amusement and arousal of the central character, as well as for the pleasure of the audience. There is a strong focus throughout on the link between sexual arousal and sexual violence and a clear association between pain, perversity and sexual pleasure. It is the Board’s conclusion that the explicit presentation of the central character’s obsessive sexually violent fantasies is in breach of its Classification Guidelines and poses a real, as opposed to a fanciful, risk that harm is likely to be caused to potential viewers.

David Cooke, Director of the BBFC said: “It is the Board's carefully considered view that to issue a certificate to this work, even if confined to adults, would be inconsistent with the Board's Guidelines, would risk potential harm within the terms of the VRA, and would be unacceptable to the public.

“The Board also seeks to avoid classifying material that may be in breach of the Obscene Publications Acts 1959 and 1964 (OPA) or any other relevant legislation. The OPA prohibits the publication of works that have a tendency to deprave or corrupt a significant proportion of those likely to see them. In order to avoid classifying potentially obscene material, the Board engages in regular discussions with the relevant enforcement agencies, including the CPS, the police, and the Ministry of Justice. It is the Board’s view that there is a genuine risk that this video work, The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence), may be considered obscene within the terms of the OPA, for the reasons given above."

SEPTEMBER FUN, SCOTT PILGRIM REVIEW, THOUGHTS AND HELLOS

Great news to be had as the summer is coming back so they say! Well regardless, more barbecues aside and more pimms aplenty, Newmanfilms is pleased to introduce a new collaborator in the form of a young lady called Kelly, who answered our need for a review of “Scott Pilgrim”,The review is gratefully spoiler free and is positive of the film, so do go and see it at her behest!

There really is only one word to use to describe this film, and as American as it is, that word is AWESOME! Now, I realise that you’ll need more than one word to get a full understanding of this film, but just keep in mind that awesome is the main essence this film gives off. That, and it being a totally effort filled performance on the acting, editing and direction of this film.

Edgar Wright, director of this geek-chic indie film has put his heart and soul into the creation of this movie. From the publicity to the final product, this film oozes nerdiness in a way which makes it cool. It’s like watching a real life game and reading a comic at the same time. Now, this may not sound appealing to you if you’re not into these sorts of things but here’s why you should be appealed. The way it approaches fight scenes is flawless. Taking the aspects of comic books by including words like “pow” and “thump” on screen as the characters hit each other brings us something not quite been done to this effect before. By having an uber cool soundtrack included during the fight scenes, and generally as non-diegetic music to the film means it’s an easy listen. And finally by adding the finishing touches such as little character profiles appearing on screen each time a new cast member is introduced means you’re left wondering what little detail have been left out?! Your eyes are fascinated by these products of imagination all floating out of Wright’s mind, leaving yours to be completely blown.

In terms of the acting, well you’re not disappointed at all. Michael Cera, man of the moment, brings Scott Pilgrim alive with witty, silly humour and an infectious type of arrogant yet venerable personality. Mary Elizabeth Winstead turns Ramona Flowers into an irresistible character that you’ll instantly fall in love with. Although, this could turn into another Team Edward/Jacob situation as Knives (Ellen Wong) is adorable. She really brings this film to life with her stalker, needy kick-ass personality. And even the background characters such as Pilgrim’s housemate, his sister and his band mates are all just as endearing to watch on screen, and funny. This film produces such a varied sort of humour it’s likely to tickle anyone watching. As for the 7 evil exes, well, making a new situation with fights topping each other on action 7 times is a hard task well done. The exes, including a film star, lesbian and twins, all create their own presence on screen which becomes even more revolting than the last to watch. All you want to do is watch Scott beat them with his wicked, game style fighting.

To top this film off, the storyline is really enjoyable. Not only do you watch Scott Pilgrim attempt to defeat the exes, but you really connect with the relationship between him and Ramona. Plus, he’s in a battle of the band which means you’re given a sub-plot to move the film along. It’s a very clever, cool and up to date superhero movie that is something your eyes have never seen before.

AXA Respect on The Road - Info and Videos

It can be quite rewarding when big business and the odd celeb get together to take a shot at making a difference to the world around us. The AXA Website for the respect on the road campaign is trying to get the message of road safety and awareness of others on the road, to the masses. Such stalwarts as “Charlie Boorman” are on board in the efforts to bring the message home. You may remember Charlie from his adventures across the globe with Ewan McGregor, travelling and getting into trouble on motorbikes.

I would suggest to learn more you have a look at the aforementioned Website (linked above) where all sorts of news (and even a game of guess the hooter) appears. The term “I Respect The Road’ is a key clue to the ideas the campaign supports, and seems to be pushing!

The site is developed by ‘AXA Car Insurance’ who provide policies within the UK and international markets. The comments on the site give a clue as to the inner workings of drivers and their opinions towards other highway users. If you are a fan of social media I would suggest you stay in touch via the Facebook fanpage, that highlights all the latest information and thought. You can also watch the latest videos on youtube.

I also think its worth noting that the films they have so far produced have been most amusing. Certainly worth having a look at if you get the chance. I have included two below for you.

The first is called Cab Cam, where, well you can watch for yourself.

The second is called Road Rage Kids and features children who seem to have learnt driving habits from their parents!

Remember if the campaign contributes to better road safety things can't be too bad

MONDAY THOUGHTS, SHERLOCK REVIEW

The problems in Afghanistan are still there, the problems of crime are still there (be it opportune or organised) and London is still in part shows; its underbelly of darkness. One could argue that the new Sherlock Holmes is just as appropriate story telling in 2010 as it was when originally published in Victorian times by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I wonder how many reviewers have encountered the original books? I ask as if they had, they would have understood that remarkably the new series catches the tone perfectly (its almost hard to say how?) and this is a true credit to script and direction.

The BBC have produced a fantastic adventure series (if based in the first episode) that will serve this reviewer as an excellent take upon the detective myth and this much beloved character. I wont bore with the details of the plot, other than “A study in Pink” is a clever riff on “Study in Scarlet” as originally written many years ago. For me the script and the acting was the thing. Both Holmes and Watson were excellently cast in Cumberbatch and Freeman.

Even the character of Lestrade is very “very” well played, yet would hardly get a mention usually. Promoted from comic support role, this policeman has been well crafted. No one would now buy that a bumbling officer would be promoted, and in tight dialogue we are told why Lestrade puts up with Holmes. Revealing Lestrade to be a good person, and recognising at once his own fallibility.

I would add that the fan boys would also have some nice nods. The show mentions Cardiff which is definitely a shout to the stereotype of Welsh weather and to the home of Steven Moffatt’s Dr Who.(which is and you will either love or hate - similar in tone)

Viewers of modern procedurals are not spoilt for choices, when it comes to amazing male characters showing almost magical skills in deduction. However the BBC have managed to out mental the Mentalist as it were. Nothing against the new shows out there, but when you have character over 100 years old, and a huge international fan base, you are forced to up the game and deliver.

I urge viewers to revisit the original stories as soon as possible and understand that watching this take is not a homage to past performances (I will mention Jeremy Brett with the respect he deserves) but a fantastic spin on the beloved characters. Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law may have the cinema, but Cumberbatch and Freedman own the television for several years and will accomplish so much more.

THE DEBT, COMIC CONN, SHERLOCK, BBC, FRIDAY THOUGHTS

Image via WikipediThe news must be exciting at Comic Con, however for those left in the UK, we must truck on. In between runs and some jazz piano, life ticks over. Food highlight of the week; was chicken breast stuffed with walnuts, goats cheese and pimento. I am happy to forward recipe for the unique amongst you.

I have to say BBC continues to impress with previews of the well awaited “Sherlock” the modern day retelling of the Sherlock Holmes myth. I cannot wait to see it to be honest. The snappy casting bodes well, and the original writing was timeless, and recommended to all who want to see how modern detectives were born.

In 2007 I think it was an Israeli revenge thriller was made. It has been remade with current Golden Balls, Sam Worthington as one of the leads in “The Debt”, which seems different from other revenge thriller “Munich” by dual casting the heroes then and now… The trailer explains better than me, so look for yourself people. Out soon, at all good cinemas…Oh and I prize to anyone who can pick the actor I’m thinking of that connects the two movies. Click the photo to be taken to the trailer.

Old news now, but the Judge Dredd remake, has finally got a lead it seems in the underused Karl Urban, a very good actor who cut his teeth with second fiddles in the Riddick film, The Bourne Sequel, and an under-promoted part in “Doom” with Dwayne Johnson. He will star here, and be signed for several sequels in 3D I am sure. Im hoping for Blade Runner, rather than camp for the films style. So Karl Urban (is he the law?)

And some thoughts from Comic Conn, that might interest.

They are remaking Haunted Mansion with Del Toro as director. (Everybody scream Eddie Murphy Cameo), and no Rambo 5 ( Personally happy, many disappointed). Too many journalists quoting on freebies and drink rather than news. And yes that makes me a tad jealous

What an exciting week it has been, enjoying Twitter, a millennia (in internet terms) later than I should have I have managed to chat very briefly with some C List people, who by my terms are fantastic of course. I was also impressed that I was one of the fist 1% of people (again in internet terms not a small number) to be tweeted the official response to Norton no longer being hulk. Or I should say #Hulk!

Amways regardless of this I am sure that the world will continue to spin and Ruffalo, Phoenix or dare we hope Tennant! will fill the shoes admirably.

WEEKEND THOUGHTS, SHERLOCK HOLMES, MIDNIGHT RUN, TINKER SAILOR SOLDIER SPY, DOCTOR WHO, JASON ISSACS

Morning weekend joy and love to all,

I very much enjoyed the 1988 film Midnight Run with De Niro and Charles Grodin playing bounty hunter and escaped prisoner respectively. It was one of the seminal (for me and others I feel) films of the 1980’s and paved the way for buddy films to follow. The acting was very good, and the casting of every single character was perfect. It really was.
The cliché’s in this film, well frankly aren’t clichés as this movie invented them.

I have long been a fan and enjoy the clip below. Thanks to ITV3(or was it ITV4) for reminding me how great this film is. I almost forgot to mention Yaphet Koto, who plays a emarkable straight guy through the film, whilst he gets more and more agitated at the heroes behaviour.

On a side note tension is slowly rising of the new version of Sherlock Holmes. The twist this time, well the directors/producers of our lovely “Dr Who” have decided to have a go at reinventing the genre piece. It is made with the same ideas but in a modern day setting. Could it work? I really hope so as I am a fan of both of the main actors; Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character, and Martin Freeman from the office as Dr Watson. The setting moves Holmes to modern day London, and has Watson as a returning officer/medical staff from the Gulf War.

You can already see the stylistic choices and influences in the promo shot below. Moriaty well my theory is Jason Issacs, particularly as he was meeting with the producers many moons ago, and I would say he is a better fit here than in Dr Who as rumoured. I think Cumberbatch has a more traditional feel (but obviously not the budget) of Downey Jnr’s version.

I reported a couple of weeks ago that “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” was a tlast getting of the ground with perfect Gary Oldman in the role of Smiley. Well it seems that officially Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, and Michael Fassbender have all signed on, making the film and rightly so both a potential Blockbuster and mostly British affair. (Surely Brian Cox will be in it somewhere!)

SPIDERMAN, MURRAY, MERYL STREEP, MARGARET THATCHER, MY LEGS, AND LENNON

Well the new Spiderman is here and he’s British so they say (born in USA one believes), so one up for the UK. Who knows we may have a superhero and a Wimbledon winner in the space of a few days. What does one think? Well I’m pleased by the casting of a mid-twenties gent in Andrew Garfield as new webs linger on the block. Just like out tennis stars he wasn’t born in England! (GO MurrayGO) Surely means the execs can continue to argue as to reboot or continuation for the franchise, now Raimi has left for other such things, and audiences might not except a reboot.

Here in UK, the Sun is so hot I have adopted shorts, allowing the pasty legs to get some airing, should I inflict these on the general public, one thinks yes as the heat surpasses the need to cover the lower extremities.

Onward from the point of view of film,

My personal favourite is the news that lovely chameleon like Meryl Streep will be playing Margaret Thatcher in a story set around the crisis in the 80’s, which centres around the Falklands war. Very interesting as she is one of the few actresses that could carry it off.
The event hit the public on this side of the atlantic, due to the distance between the UK and principality that was argued over. Also at the time the daring Prince Andrew who served in the forces was doing his rounds in the forces.

For the international audiences I thought I would stick to UK talent, so for those who haven’t seen it I thought I would bring attention to the delightful TV movie called “Lennon Naked”. It starred Chris Eccleston and aired on BBC4 channel the other day. Nice acting in an interesting biography. Thanks to the guys at Blogterwho for uploading for the net.

Very entertaining, the actor showing once more, that he does a fine job, showing he’s more than Dr Who, and certainly more than a villain in “Gone in 60 Seconds”.

I’m very excited to see trailer of a film that hasn’t really had much said about it in the mainstream. Equally Bruce Willis upon realising he is maturing, used it to great effect with th comic adaptation “RED”. It has a fantastic cast as you’ll see from the trailer, and I truly hope it gets the press it deserves. Spread the word people. The trailer somes up the plot very well, so I'll let you kids watch it.

Where else would you get Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis Helen Mirren, John Malcovitch, and Richard Dreyfuss. Love it.

Happy Fathers Day one and all!

Hoping the day seems fine and dandy for you, a nice rainy Sunday in UK, with all of the vibe that comes with it.

Sunday is a reflective day, so firstly great two parter yesterday, or I should say the start of the two parter called “The Pandorica Opens” ; Dr who and all that! Matt Smith continues to impress and the Moffett throws a curve ball or two explaining the return of a dead character, nicely done. Just who is River Song, will we ever find out?

More news on the ether says the next die hard, called be called Die Hard 24/7 and have the protagonist of Jack Bauer within the film! Rumour or not I could see it working but lets face it if the two fought Bauer would kick McClane’s backside. (I’m sure discussion will arise!)It’s the not first time different film hero’s have crossed, but this would be in a way of launching tent pole film(s) for the Keifer Sutherland character. I'd like him to have cinema fame once more, very funny guy.

Just thought I’d leave you guys with thoughts of happiness and a further plea to stop 3D films!

SATURDAY THOUGHTS, DOCTOR WHO, TONY CURRAN, GARY OLMAN, GEORGE SMILEY

Its Saturday and I’m in, all asleep in the world, so I’m typing away with the thoughts.

Firstly just watched Vincent and the Doctor, which was extremely enjoyable. Very cinematic indeed in its scope. Good attempt at explaining why the Doctor cant always make a difference, just trying to make things a little better. Its hard to steel the show away from current tardis owner Matt Smith; but I have to say Tony Curran did an excellent job as Vincent Van Gogh.

So far I the last few weeks I have caught Curran in The Mentalist just yesterday, 24, and now Dr Who, someone give him his own show! He was one of the best things about the first few series of Ultimate Force, and even managed to come out ok from his tenure in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I have always loved John Le Carre; or more precisely the character of George Smiley. The books featuring the character have a wonderful gritty portrayal of the spy game. It is with jubilation I here Le Carre’s seminal hero is finally coming to the big screen.

Smiley was previously portrayed by Alec Guinness on the TV, and later by a rather underrated and under heard Simon Russell Beale in radio form. Perfect casting is about to ensue with Gary Oldman stepping into the fold to recreate the character of the most respected and underpaid master spy in fictional UK history. I cant wait for that, certainly to see the man in a starring role is excellent in itself.

ASHES TO ASHES FINALE, LOST FINALE, PHILLIP GLENNISTER, MARS

If you haven’t seen the Ashes to Ashes Finale, or Lost finale, do not read on, as it contains in the words of River Song “Spoilers”

In the UK we have Ashes to Ashes the three series spin off from the excellent Life on Mars (UK two series original), which continued the plotline an developed the world further. Let me tell you there was no deep space travel to be done in the original!

This week saw the conclusion of the show, brought to a head by some very well acted performances, which would have been at home in any genre of show. (Kudus for all but with particular inference to Phillip Glennister showing the depth of emotion, inherent within his acting family)

Well what was the meaning of it all, well erm, they were all dead;

Suffice it to say the reading seems to be Gene Hunt is an angel, Jim Keats is the envoy of the devil (evidenced further by clues on the BBC website, showing he isn’t the devil himself - see if you can find them…), and all of the cops in Fenchurch CID are lost soles, deciding where to go. We even got some subtle temptation thrown in with two ladies on the stairs, egging the lost Ray downwards. You'll never see 9.06 as just another time.

I liked it on several levels, particularly the myth that belief has to be the triumph of faith over reason. Glennister’s Hunt, cannot tell everyone the truth of the shared situation, they have to understand it and move on. Keat’s character throws the truth in their faith using it as a tool for his ends. Very nicely done.

The ending took the decision to use acting and wordplay to finish and I felt this to be more rewarding than the finale of six seasoned……………

Where they were all….
Dead,

Purgatory and the like? One reading certainly. I enjoyed the show, although the last 15 minutes for me (and am trying to stay unbiased) did not have the same clout as the Ashes to Ashes ending which had the same meaning done in a different way. Lost was full of individual performances that were great over the six seasons, but event TV can often be more about spectacle than substance.

Ashes was introverted, sublte and warmer in my opinion,

TUESDAY THOUGHTS, THE THREE MUSKETEERS, JUDGE DREDD NEW VERSION!

Well one is happy to see that a new version of the seminal UK character (check it out via 2000AD) Jugde Dredd is going to seak funding at Cannes. An Indian film company called Reliance Big Entertainment has partnered with some other big names. No stars on board, but cue the discussion of who why and wherefore. Hmm Russell Crowe maybe, who knows, but I would like to see someone not teen friendly that’s for sure. Let the debate bring on who will utter the immortal line, “I AM THE LAW!” …Daniel Craig could do it now his Bong gig in the air?

Orlando Bloom is going to go 3d as he will play a Duke in the new version of The Three(d) musketeers. I am sure Alexander Dumas would be spinning around if he new what his story is becoming. Well regardless I wonder if anyone remembers the little seen version of the story from recent years. In 2001 they remixed the story with Kung Fu, and got something called “The Musketeer” more a hit with martial arts fans on DVD I believe than with cinema goers. It even had Tim Roth and erm…the bloke from Grey’s Anatomy (?)

Friday rundown, captain america and iron man, dr who, the good, the bad and the ugly,new bond film, jonah hex trailer

I wake with a cheery tune in my head,

and a happy thought,
he sound of “Now the world don’t move to the beet of just one drum” in my head.

Great few weeks on television that leave 24 building towards a climax probably more famous for it being its last one than what actually happens. Poor old Sutherland junior, lets hope he can keep his movie version and subsequent career going. It is a fickle yet for many lovingly condusive world we live in, and the celebrity entertainment vibe is around us all the time. The stars are bigger than the parts they play, certainly from a movie fans point of view.

Regardless there are some good ways to stay in touch with the news, I have my favourite sites, a good one for me that passes on some celebrity news is from the guys at village with their entertainment pages, look at their movie news here. Keeps you abreast of the news, and does its thing quite well indeed, certainley for celeb entertainment.

Today what’s happening for me, and what am I liking.

Well the cult status of Iron Man has prompted a group of internet 3d creators, to replace the character of Baby from Dirty Dancing, with the Iron Man himself. Its a must watch and I strongly recommend you catch it below! On a side note, it was interesting a spoiler from the Iron Man 2 film which reads that the suit is welcome in the avengers but not necessarily Tony Stark.

I may find myself popping to Surrey to take some snaps now, as just down the road (well on a global scale), the production of Captain America has sort of started at Shepperton Studios. Chris Evans didn’t even screen test apparently. Having seen him in both Fantastic Four(s) and Push, I am openly optimistic and realise the film could go either way. Lets hope Marvel don’t let the bad stuff happen.

Monday thoughts, Captain America is here, 3DTV, Goldie Hawn verses J-Lo, Warren Lynch

Long time no post - I should copy write that phrase as it seems to be the most prolific in the blogging world, yet being a man with several strings to the bow, means mine is genuine (please believe me, honest etc etc…)

I firstly would like thank the studios for creating films that seem to give us headache after headache in 3d. Cant wait till the 3d TV allows the collective public to get a headache at home whenever we so desire. It makes one wonder if the makers of paracetamol sponsor the whole process. And always remember that a tiny little chip means that there is no real difference between a cheaper HD TV and a 3D HD TV, other than the price tag…... Wait till the tech hackers realise.

So with a Monday morning schedule clear for an hour or so I find myself wading in on the current captain america debate. It seems all bar the final signing means that a former fantastic fourer and will oppose Hugo Weaving’s red skull. It seems Chris Evans will hold the shield.

Not a bad choice but not too brave cinematically - he does tick the physical boxes though, and will be interesting when both him and Downey Jnr compete to steel the most scenes in any crossover film.

One can only assume that remakes are done for reasons of improvement so the fellow press surprised me when I read that 1980’s comedy and an average Goldie Hawn flick is being remade. The often funny but not groundbreaking “Overboard” is being retooled as a vehicle for J-LO. Well the firat film was saved by the chemistry between real life partners Hawn and Kurt Russell, it makes one unsure as to who they will cast in the remake, but my favourite and starter for 10 would be rent a hunk Mathew McConaughey. They could give it a modern twist and let the older Kurt Russell reprise his role, but this time as an aging lothario (that would be funny)

Finally I caught some interesting footage on several sources over the last few weeks, so I had to promote here as well. For many years directors looking to make a concept or an idea into reality would pitch. Stylistically this can be limiting so several make a real with footage to highlight ideas and styles that need to be seen. The films 300/Sin City were born from show reels made at producers expenses. The latest to catch my eye is called Warren Lynch, and tells the story of a bounty hunter in a Blade Runner style future, that sci fans will love.

Jean Simmons passes, a hollywood legend

At the age of 80 years the loved British actress Jean Simmons has passed away, as she lost her battle against cancer. Regaled in England through the 60’s and 70’s as a true success story, many remember her performances to this day, both through big screen blockbusters, and her later TV career.

She was born in the UK, but her home had become America, moving to Hollywood for her career in the 1950’s. In her later years she lived in Santa Monica. She was famous playing against leading men of the era, seen eating up the screen against Olivier in his famed Hamlet, as well as fitting into Guys and Dolls with Marlon Brando. I remember her looking lovely in “The Robe” with Richard Burton as well as “Spartacus” with Kirk Douglas. She had some say the unique ability (somewhat Meryll Streeplike) to be a chameleon when the movie called for it.

Her first husband was famed actor Stewart Granger and she was later married again to writer Richard Brooks.

Below is a clip from the classic Guys and Dolls, and sometimes I wish films could be as fun as this today. (How time makes me sound like my grandma.)

Wednesday thoughts, Spiderman, MacGruber trailer, and a lament

I was surprised pleasantly when it was announced the director of the new Spiderman movie has been found. The budget has been cut, (so maybe only a couple of big stars) and they are now looking for the cast. The gig has gone to the director called Marc Webb. (suitably named I think) He recently made the film 500 days of summer, which has lead to the rumours of the casting of Joseph Gordon-Levett as the Webslinger. More substantially famous websites have said this isn’t true so I will take their word for it, but I do think he is a good fit for the role. We might I am sad to say see an High School Star or a vampire get the gig, I daren’t say the names thus faint be tempted.

I still cant my head around the idea that they are rebooting it. The last film was worse than the preceding two, but still……I hope it doesn’t play as a prequel, that would upset me more than the Vulture not being played by John Malkovitch. I’ll be happy to eat humble pie if said franchise is rebooted and the film turns out to be excellent.

MacGruber is new to me, the character was created in a Saturday Night Live sketch, and has been turned into a film starring Will Forte. All I know is if something spoofs MacGyver (we got that in the UK) then its worth a look. Val Kilmer plays the villain and seems to be having good fun in the trailer re-direction below. (Lots of rudeness, we know you love it)

Thursday thoughts and the like, Cowboys, vs Aliens, Spiderman reboot, Robert Downey Jnr beten by Daniel Craig, Yellow Submarine

Sony have decided to reboot Spiderman as a decision coinciding with Sam Raimi’s departure over script/description/direction of the planned Spiderman 4. I always thought you were meant to wait a while to reboot, is less than five years a record?

They announced they will take the franchise in a different direction with hints of Peter Parker returning to high school. Although we can see reboots work (examples being Batman Begins, Casino Royale, and Star Trek) I am not too sure about this one. The Spiderman trilogy had tent pole release dates within the last ten years, with huge budgets and well received box office. Surely a recast of the character and a continuation of the current continuity would be better. I can think of several actors that would fit the bill, and several directors who could do the job. It’s a shame as the vulture is a classic comic book villain and was set to be played by John Malkovitch.

What do you mean i gotta play retro?

When I heard the news that Robert Downey Jnr (just imagine his dad shouting junior in the style of Sean Connery ala IJ and the LC) left the interesting project “Cowboys vs. Aliens” I was wondering who could replace the star in this retro sci-fi comic adaptation. The director John Favreau has picked another of with his efforts to secure Daniel Craig in the lead role. Several outlets have said that with MGM selling and Bond delayed by said sale, Craig can hopefully be persuaded to go all “yee haw” . The films pitches cowboys with Native Americans, teaming to take on an alien invasion in the wild wild west. If the rumour is true, we could see the actor being picked due to his delivery, giving some gravitas to a cookie yet watchable plot.

Almost slipping under the radar in the mainstreams, is the remake of the Beatles, “Yellow Submarine”. It has now found its fantastic four (it’s animated so they are voice talents). Cary Elwes of Princess Bride fame is there and why I write is I’m glad to see an amazing British Comedian is on board, famed for his impressions and satire. I’m talking about Peter Serafinowicz whose BBC shows have found a following particularly on clips plastered over Youtube. (full of swearing so be warned)

A Team trailer finally here!

The pain of late nights, well sometimes they are rewarded, when you can become one of the first to show a new trailer. Admittedly it has been leaked so I’m not sure how long it will be available for; so enjoy whilst you can. Its low res, but that adds to the charm of this big screen version of an 80's classic.

I like Liam Neeson’s “Peppard” impression, even if the CGI is going to out way the real stunts that made the original so famous. Of course you can see that every action cliché is there, and the Mohican is there, maybe this summer should you find them you can be enticed to watch the A Team. (oh how we love to reminisce!)

xmas, new year, doctor who and wilf's real identity?

Well the important thing is done and Christmas has left as fleeting as it came, hope whatever faith and belief you have the festivities and holidays passed by without a hitch, food poisonings or family stress. I received an amazing gift of a full hd Sony camcorder - so expect more video posts through late January!

Regardless the film season is on kind of with Sherlock Holmes doing the rounds, but I haven’t, due to the usual injury been able to cinema it. Shall await esteemed blue ray !

What is happening in the uk, well wherever you turn looking for entertainment news you come across, the Dr Who vibe, and to add my two pennies to the mix, here is my take on tomorrows show, and I hope it works well, if you haven’t seen the first part the text below may hint at happenings in “the End of Time part 1”

The drums are beating in the masters head, So we assume heart beat of the time lords or the time lords themselves are in the master. Leading to a somehow regeneration of the race via the master-race. Due to timey winemy. I’m not sure if they will still disappear or not by the end of the program.

However the doctor’s regeneration?

The doctor is somehow injured (obviously) and states that he must see everyone before he dies, and he doesn’t want to regenerate. (as we thought the master might have done last time) This means he travels around and does his thing with all the people (we have seen in leaked footage throughout the last six months in filming clips and pictures). However he says,……I sometimes think time lords live to long. (as seen in trailer for part 2) .

He makes the decision - in a change of plan he decides to save himself and take the chameleon arch option! Thus making himself unaware of time lords and becoming human

He lands on earth in 1945 thereabouts and hides the Tardis, somewhere unobtrusive, the tardis gives him the name Wilfred Mott and he lives an ordinary life.

We then see doctor aging and living a normal life and go over various events that unfold.

Hmmm.
Eventually ……,

We cut back to Wilfred Mott on his deathbed in modern times, injured perhaps fatally in the Timewar, unaware of his interaction with his previous self. For some reason he has the strange urge to look at the fob watch he has kept with him from the end of the second world war, (maybe…..). Donna stands by his side on his death bed as he passes the energy from her Docter Donna self murges with wilf!

and he opens the watch he dies!

Brittany Murphy passes away.

Bit of shocking news this morning. Brittany Murphy, star of films such as 8 mile and Sin City, and voice actress in King of the Hill and Happy Feet; has died of a suspected heart attack at the young age of 32. Very strange reading the inbox this morning and seeing this, so my condolences go out to her family and friends who will deeply mourn the loss of a very talented individual., who always bought a sexiness and kookiness to the roles she played.

Soon to be seen in Summer blockbuster “The Expendables”, she is survived by her spouse Simon Monjack, director.

A December Thought, and Avatar christmas, and some new year thoughts

Its been a little bit of a while since I posted, as I have been laid up with a cross between a bad bug and man flu! Couldn’t work out which so back in the throw of things now. Preparing for xmas and buying presents for all the close ones. I was ill and have dropped ¾ of a stone so out of everything bad find the silver lining I guess. New Year diet started earlier than usual?

Great excitement about going to the SFX weekender in February, should get some interviews done for the website and the like, but for now am interested to keep up with the latest news of note.

All you film fans would have been following the news I’m sure, as Avatar approaches will it be the biggest miss or hit of the year. Studios ,must be unsure putting a £200 million plus flick on around xmas time? Well Cameron the Titanic director has already been in the press discussing sequels, so he has high hopes, perhaps more than I, although I have a feeling this one will be a mega smash on Blue Ray in six months or so.

On a side note ! Everywhere I look I see vampire films, books, and TV shows, got to hate it, would have loved it many years ago, when I was a Laurel K Hamilton fan I guess.
