It with a twinge of sadness as well as nostalgia that I report that the director John Hughes has passed away from a heart attack at the age of 59. The director is noted for the stream of classics that he worked on throughout the eighties that successfully managed to blend humour and teen angst, with genuinely loveable characters and watch-ability. He would often avoid interviews and would rather let his work speak for him. His biggest commercial success was as a writer of “Home Alone” which was a global hit.
As he was not a public figure per say it is hard to comment on the man, and I will just say that his work was seminal in cinema comedy between 1980 and 1990, and I would suggest anyone who is unsure imdb his resume for a glance at the comedies he worked on.
Here are some videos to jog the memory
Planes Trains and Automobiles
Pretty in Pink
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
